Project WILD

Volunteer facilitators with Project WILD play a key role in preparing educators to spark an environmental awareness in their students. How students learn and understand the inner workings of the natural world—with all its twists and turns—isn't always intuitive, and has seldom been easy. The first step in delivering that message is preparing the people who teach students the importance of critical thinking. Project WILD is an award-winning California Department of Fish and Wildlife environmental education program that provides educators with ready-made science lesson plans and activities that focus on wildlife. Training workshops are taught by volunteer facilitators, and educators who have been through Project WILD training can then incorporate these materials into their curriculum. Students who experience Project WILD develop the knowledge, skills and commitment necessary to become informed citizens.
